Breast Lift Overview

Mastopexy (breast lift) simply means lifting of the breast. Women commonly request this procedure following childbirth and breastfeeding, or significant weight loss.

The breast lift procedure involves some scarring on the breast. This may be a periareolar scar (around the nipple) or it may involve a vertical or horizontal scar on the lower pole of the breast. The breast lift procedure also involves suspension of the breast tissue internally. It may be combined with a breast augmentation (implants) if a larger size is desired. Sometimes the surgeon will recommend performing this procedure (augmentation mastopexy) as a two stage procedure if there are significant safety considerations.
