Medical Skin Needling

Dermaroller Model MF8

What is skin needling?

Skin micro-needling (also called Collagen Induction Therapy) is a procedure that uses tiny needles to penetrate the upper layers of the skin.  It is the needling process alone that is the key to trigger stimulation of your own skin cell regeneration. There is no substance injected into the skin.  This action causes a release of growth factors within the skin that promotes the production of collagen, elastin and other substances. These substances are further enhanced with the use of topical vitamins and act to tighten and smooth the skin.

What can skin needling treat?

  • Fine lines on the face and neck
  • Pigmentation
  • Crepey skin
  • Mild acne and hypertrophic scarsStretch marks

What does skin needling involve?

Pre treatment consultation

A complimentary, non obligatory consultation is provided by one of our trained dermal therapists or registered nurses. This consultation enables you to express your concerns freely and confidentially. Following an assessment and examination a tailored treatment plan will be provided and the most appropriate treatment for you will be discussed.

Treatment

  • The procedure is performed using a small devise called the Roll-CIT ® or Dermaroller ®.
  • Firstly a topical anaesthetic is applied to the areas to be treated.
  • Once the skin is numb, the entire surface of the skin is repeatedly treated with the devise causing very small needle pricks to the surface layer of the skin.
  • A topical vitamin serum will be applied to the skin immediately following the procedure.  This is very important as Vitamin A, and C are delivered more readily via the channels that have been created by the needle.

Aftercare

  • There will be minimal pin point bleeding during the procedure and this will not be detectable by you once the skin has been cleaned and the serums applied.
  • You can continue with your normal skin care regime.
  • In addition you should apply Vitamin A and C to your skin as directed by your practitioner. The use of these antioxidants cannot be overstressed and are essential to stimulate cell growth and the production of healthy new collagen.
  • It is also imperative to apply a daily sunscreen to prevent further photo ageing of the skin by stopping damage of collagen and other skin structures by exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
  • You can begin use of the Cosmetic Home Roller to further enhance penetration of topical skincare into the skin as soon as your skin feels comfortable.

How many treatments will I need?

  • 6-10 treatments every 4-8 weeks depending on skin condition and client expectations.
  • Your practitioner will advise you of what will be needed for your skin condition.

Who will perform my skin needling treatment?

  • A dermal therapist or registered nurse who is thoroughly trained in advanced skin therapies and   rejuvenation.
  • At the Rodin Clinic we pride ourselves on education, professionalism and patient satisfaction.
  • Our therapists have several years experience and are constantly updating their techniques in order to provide you with outstanding care and results.
  • Please see our staff profiles for further information.

Is there any recovery time?

  • Immediately after the treatment, your skin will be quite pink and sun burnt like  in appearance.
  • You may see many small, red, pin point dots on the skin.  The pinkness usually subsides within 4 to 6 hours.
  • You may experience some skin dryness for a few days following treatment.
  • You will easily be able to return to work and social life the day after the treatment.

Are there any possible complications or side effects?

  • Infection, or delayed healing if the aftercare instructions are not followed properly.
  • Possible cold sores if you are prone to them.
  • Hyperpigmentation (darker patches of skin).

What is the cost of skin needling?

  • A full face treatment is $425.
  • Price includes a complimentary consultation with a dermal therapist or registered nurse plus a visia skin analysis.
  • A home care skin needling device is $230.
